What’s In The Box? May 14-20

Spring Favorites
Fresh green asparagus to purple radishes, peppery Mesclun greens to pea shoots, this week’s box celebrates some of our favorite flavors of spring, offered alongside such delicious accoutrements as farm-fresh eggs, fragrant herbs like lovage and petite Cinnamon Cap mushrooms. Also included in this springtime lineup: Italian Rustica bread and Little Apple Treats’ granola cookies kissed with dried apples and lots of chocolate. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Cinnamon Cap Mushrooms

With their jaunty caps, these petite Cinnamon Cap mushrooms grow in beautiful clusters and cook up crisp and firm with an incredibly-earthy flavor. We heartily recommend them incorporated into a cozy risotto or pasta dish, served atop crostini, or mixed into a spring-fresh egg scramble—see recipes for ideas.

Italian Rustica Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this airy, rustic loaf makes for great oven-crisp crostini—just brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and rub with a fresh-cut clove of garlic before toasting in the oven.

Little Apple Treats Granola Cookies

Featuring dried apples, oats, quinoa flakes, lots of chocolate and the perfect amount of vanilla, these addictive, crispy cookies are made from Little Apple Treat’s special “cookie-blend” granola.

Caves de Cerca Fâmega Vinho Verde

This young Portuguese wine is made from a beautiful blend of 50% Arinto, 30% Loureiro and 20% Trajadura grapes grown in the magnificent valleys of Tâmega and Douro, which are protected by the Marão and Alvão mountains. Balanced and incredibly versatile in its pairings, the finished wine boasts delicate minerality and fresh fruit aroma.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet spring days, or strutting around their enclosure on sunny ones, our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Enjoy a bounty of spring greens this week: Red Cegolaine and Little Gem lettuces, arugula, Mesclun mix, micro greens, sunflower shoots and pea shoots.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes baby bok choy, Hakurei turnips, asparagus, baby cauliflower and purple French Breakfast radishes, plus Meyer lemons, Pacific Rose apples and heirloom spring rhubarb!

Fresh Garden Herbs

Shallots, garlic, tarragon and lovage from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
