What’s In The Box? May 2-8

MAY 2-8

Spring Favorites
Fresh asparagus to radishes, peppery Mesclun greens to chives, this week’s box celebrates some of our favorite flavors of spring, offered alongside such delicious accoutrements as duck eggs, pumpernickel bread and brown sugar-kissed Lummi Island smoked salmon. Also included in this springtime lineup: Preserved Meyer lemons to add bright appeal to salad dressings and our signature cherry-almond topping to finish off a rhubarb crisp. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Lummi Island Smoked Wild Keta Salmon

Tender and perfectly flaky, this top-quality, reef-net-caught Keta salmon is hot smoked over alder coals and kissed with just the right amount of sea salt and brown sugar.

Duck Eggs

With near-transparent egg whites and color-rich oversize yolks, these pastured duck eggs are a chef’s dream, lending flavorful appeal to a variety of dishes.

Pumpernickel Bread

Baked fresh just for us by a small bakery in nearby Snohomish, this slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is wonderful served sliced and buttered and then topped with freshly-sliced radishes and a drizzle of olive oil and sea salt.

La Vieille Ferme Rosé 2017

Pretty pale pink with pastel undertones, this gorgeous French Rosé is crafted from a distinct blend of Cinsault, Grenache and Syrah grapes to lend a beautiful balance of sweetness and acidity on the palette. The fresh and aromatic nose helps it to pair well with seasonal produce as it boasts notes of red fruit, flowers and citrus.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms on nice days, our heritage breed laying hens are also thoroughly enjoying a bounty of sprouting seeds and spring popweed, in turn supplying us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of blues, green and brown.

Preserved Meyer Lemons

Crafted and jarred in our farmhouse kitchen with fresh lemon juice and sea salt, these beautiful preserved Meyer lemons are fantastic incorporated into a spring-fresh salad dressing. See this week’s recipes for our favorite version, which is lovely drizzled over spinach greens, or even atop grilled or roasted veggies like cauliflower and asparagus.

Cherry-Almond Crisp Topping

Our signature fruit crisp topping is crafted from organic cane sugar, ground almonds, sweet butter and dried cherries.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Iron-rich spinach and Mesclun mix.

F&L Cake Mix

Crafted from our own signature recipe, this cake mix bakes up moist and delicious when simply mixed with eggs, walnuts and your choice of diced apples or spring rhubarb—see recipes for details!

Seasonal Organic Greens

Beautiful Mache and spinach greens.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables & Fruit

This week’s produce selection also includes red radishes, turnip raab, cauliflower, asparagus and French fingerling potatoes, plus rhubarb and Meyer lemons.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, lovage, French tarragon, thyme and chives from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
