What’s In The Box? May 21-27

Southwest Flavor
Nothing perks up the taste buds quite like the flavors of the Southwest, so enjoy the region’s smoky, spicy style this week with fixings for a build-your-own-taco night: Skagit River Ranch’s signature chorizo sausage, locally-crafted tortillas and both our fresh housemade pico de gallo and Southwest Ranch dressing. Accented by radishes, turnips, avocado, limes and even the first strawberries of the season, plus multigrain bread and farm-fresh eggs, this spectacular lineup will do the Southwest proud.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Housemade Pico de Gallo

Perfect for topping a taco, or munching on with some chips, our signature housemade pico is light and bright, made from fresh tomatoes, onions, cilantro, a kiss of lime from our own lime tree, and a spicy pop of jalapeño pepper.

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick! Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chile powder, this flavorful sausage from our friends at Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley is crafted from their famous all-natural pork.

Patty Pan Cooperative Whole Wheat Flour Tortillas

The locally-made, hand-pressed tortillas from this Shoreline-based worker-owned coop are crafted from just four stellar ingredients: Olive oil, salt, water and organic flour from Cairnspring Mills located in the Skagit Valley. (Pro tip: Quickly heat the tortilla over an open flame for a delicious, slightly charred flavor!)

Multigrain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this healthy freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Notre Dame de Laval Côtes du Roussillon

This lovely French wine combines brambly raspberry and blackberry fruit with earthy Carignan notes and black-olive subtleties from the Syrah; enjoy!

Farm Fresh Eggs

Spending their time dodging raindrops on wet spring days, or strutting around their enclosure on sunny ones, our heritage breed laying hens are now also enjoying the tasty green popweed we pull from the garden, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

F&L Southwest Ranch Dressing

Our creamy housemade dressing is accented by a signature blend of smoky spices—toss it with some fresh spring greens and radishes for a side salad, and even spoon a little on your chorizo taco this week!

Seasonal Organic Greens

Enjoy a bounty of spring greens this week: Peppery arugula, spinach, red Cegolaine lettuce, Tom Thumb baby lettuce and Mesclun spring salad mix.

Fresh Strawberries

Ripe and ready to eat now: Hurray for the first strawberries of the season from Caruso Farm in Snohomish!

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes asparagus, Pink Beauty radishes, baby carrots, Hakurei turnips, jalapeño pepper and avocado, plus Cara Cara oranges, Meyer lemons and limes.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Garlic, parsley, thyme, cilantro, scallions and chives from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
