What’s In The Box? May 5-11

Risotto Night
The calendar may say May, but the spring temps sure have remained chilly, so warm yourself body and soul this week with a lineup that stars one of our farmhouse favorites: cozy risotto crafted with arborio rice, wild and earthy Porcini mushrooms and our own signature chicken stock. Also including Pain au Levain bread, soft, spreadable sheep’s milk cheese and a bevy of bold greens, this box is still flush with the offerings of spring despite the pervasive gray, from purple sprouting broccoli and gold potatoes to Hakurei turnips and red radishes. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Arborio Rice

This round-grain rice comes from the Po River Valley region of Italy and is named for the town of Arborio located in the heart of the area. When cooked with our flavorful chicken stock and a splash of white wine, it becomes creamy and starchy and is a great accompaniment to just about any flavor combination, like this week’s Porcini mushrooms.

Dried Porcini Mushrooms

Italian for ‘little pigs’, these meaty dried Porcini mushrooms foraged by expert mushroom hunter Jeremy Faber and his team at Foraged & Found Edibles are rich in taste, imparting a pungent, woodsy flavor to any number of dishes, from risotto to soup.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies country-style French baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior.

Bodegas Caro Aruma Malbec

The nose of this deep red Malbec from Argentina shows a great aromatic intensity of white flowers, red fruits and cherries. On the palate the wine is fresh, fruity, expressing a pleasant balance between acidity, tannins and softness.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Harmony Fields ‘Sally’s Best’ Sheep’s Milk Cheese

This soft, spreadable cheese from Bow-based Harmony Fields is made from 100-percent sheep’s milk. Similar to chevre, but with a creamier texture, the light flavor of this cheese makes it perfect for spreading on crackers or sandwiches, or it also crumbles nicely in a salad or omelette.

Farm & Larder Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock is simmered slowly for hours with carrots, onions and celery and seasoned with a dash of sea salt.

Fresh Organic Greens

Mixed salad greens, mixed micro greens and bold mustard greens.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes purple sprouting broccoli, leeks, yellow spring onions, Huckleberry Gold potatoes, Hakurei turnips and red radishes, plus a mix of Honeycrisp and Wild Twist apples.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley, thyme and garlic from the garden at Bella Luna Farms.

K’ul Chocolate Pezzo Baking & Snacking Chocolate

Made with 100-percent, organic single origin cacao from the Semuliki Forest estate in Uganda.
