What’s In The Box? November 10-16

Sunday Supper
In the tradition of our own Nonna Pat’s long-standing Sunday suppers, this week’s box includes all the fixings for a cozy, Italian-inspired meal to share with your nearest and dearest—from fresh bucatini to Skagit River Ranch Italian sausage and crusty Italian Rustica bread. Side dish-worthy produce such as carrots, cauliflower and Bietola Swiss chard, plus orchard apples, herbs, farm-fresh eggs, and a crisp Rosé, all help to round out this robust fall meal.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Fresh Bellingham Pasta Co. Bucatini

Hand-crafted in nearby Bellingham, this spaghetti-like semolina pasta has a hole running through the center—hence the name bucatini, which comes from the Italian buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced”.

Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage

The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, this delectable Italian-style sausage will add a flavorful, savory note to a hearty bowl of pasta this week.

Italian Rustica Bread

This freshly-baked loaf is made in Snohomish using a wild yeast starter, which creates an airy, chewy bread and a delightfully-crisp crust. Perfect paired with this week’s bucatini and Nonna’s sauce—just brush the top with a little water and warm in the oven for a perfect crispy, chewy crust!

Ercole Piemonte Doc Rosato 2021

This crisp and dry Rosé features strawberry and peach on the nose, which leads to a pleasant second phase. Dry, but slightly sweet, it also boasts a smooth finish. Fun fact: The wines by Ercole, which means “Hercules” in Italian, are made by a generations-old co-op of local growers in the Monferrato region of Italy.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the shorter, darker days, the girls are up early to roam the outdoors. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading back into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Seasonal Organic Greens

This week’s greens include Cegolaine lettuces, Bietola Swiss chard and Treviso chicory.

Fall Apples

A selection of beautiful Golden Russet and Newtown Pippin apples.

Seasonal Organic Produce

This week’s produce selection also includes onions, white cauliflower, orange carrots, celery and Jimmy Nardello peppers.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Thyme, parsley, garlic and rosemary from the walled garden at Bella Luna Farms.
