What’s In The Box? November 11-17

Pasta Night
In the tradition of our own Nonna Pat’s long-standing Sunday suppers, this week’s lineup includes fixings for a meal to share with your nearest and dearest, starting with a satisfying orecchiette pasta tossed with organic Italian sausage, tender roasted squash and crisp-edged fall greens, plus Gruyère cheese bread and a crisp French Rosé to serve alongside. Also inside this box: Farm-fresh eggs, beautiful orchard apples and side dish-ready produce like carrots, beets, heirloom tomatoes and a bevy of greens. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Imported Orecchiette

Crafted in the traditional Italian style from semolina flour and cut using Old World bronze dies, this distinctively-shaped artisanal pasta hails from Pianella, Italy, and aptly resembles its name—“little ears”!

Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage

The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, this delectable Italian-style sausage will add a flavorful, savory note to a hearty bowl of pasta this week.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances rich Gruyère cheese with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely delicious toasted or re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Ravoire et Fils 2020 Domaine des Bellugues Rosé Mediterranée

Made by a small family estate named for the fireflies that live around the vineyard (bellegues means “spark”), this French Rosé bursts with fresh fruit flavors and a crisp, bright acidity.

Grana-Style Cheese

Made in our farmstead creamery, this hard Grana-style cheese is crafted from part-skim cow’s milk to allow for longer aging of 24 months or more, and is turned and rubbed with olive oil during aging to create a smooth, golden rind.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are on an early-to-bed, later-to-rise schedule with the shorter daylight hours. As they spend more time snug in their coop, the “girls” are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Seasonal Fruit

Liberty and Spartan apples from the orchard.

Fresh Organic Greens

Enjoy a plethora of greens this week: Pea shoots, sunflower shoots, Lacinato kale, Savoy cabbage and Castelfranco radicchio.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Walla Walla sweet onions, orange carrots from One Leaf Farm, Chioggia beets, heirloom tomatoes from Hima Farms, Mad Hatter and Italian frying peppers, and celery, plus La Estrella squash, a delicious winter variety with a nutty flavor and smooth flesh.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Gorgeous Chesnok red garlic, sage and winter thyme from the walled garden at Bella Luna Farms.

Amaretto Cookies

These traditional buttery Italian cookies are a wonderful afternoon pick-me-up!
