What’s In The Box? November 19-25

Chili Night
Ward off the cold, wet weather this week with all the elements for a cozy chili night: Start off with our housemade chili—fragrant with garlic, onions and roasted peppers—then add spicy, all-natural Chorizo sausage as you please and serve alongside melty Gruyère cheese bread. Complemented with a French red wine, this satisfying supper is rounded out by beautiful produce including Brussels sprouts, Savoy cabbage and sweet fennel.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Housemade Chili

Slow-simmered with premium dried black beans, our classic-style chili boasts a wonderful depth of flavor and a smoky-spicy kick, crafted with fresh garlic, onions, roasted peppers and green chiles, plus our own special seasoning blend.

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick! Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chile powder, this flavorful sausage from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley is crafted from their famous all-natural pork and makes for a savory addition to this week’s chili—just cook, slice, and add it to the finished chili. (Please note: Smoked chicken from Double D Meats will be substituted for subscribers who have specified no pork products. It will also make a great addition to this week’s chili!)

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by one of our favorite bakeries, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely wonderful re-warmed in the oven and served with a bowl of chili—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Château Beauregard Ducasse Graves 2011

Owned and operated by the same family since 1850, Château Beauregard is situated in the commune of Graves in France. This beautiful red is crafted from a combination of 50% Merlot, 45% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc for a full-bodied wine that carries notes of spice with a full finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend more time snug in their coop during this cold blustery weather, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, in turn supplying us with eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green.

Fresh Orchard Apples

Candy Crisp apples from Tonnemaker Family Orchard.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes purple carrots, beefsteak tomatoes, baby Blue Hubbard winter squash, Brussels sprouts, fennel, Savoy cabbage and red fingerling potatoes, plus purple and green Lacinato kale.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful mixture of baby lettuces, plus Treviso and Castelfranco radicchio.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown Italian flat-leaf parsley, thyme, cilantro, shallots and garlic.
