What’s In The Box? October 13-19

PACKED WITH PRODUCE
From peppers and tomatoes to corn and squash, this week’s box is full of fresh fall provisions! Also including such favorites as red beets, fennel, purple carrots, cucumbers and French Breakfast radishes, plus a bevy of garden greens, the autumnal splendor is rounded out by Challah bread, farm-fresh eggs, edible flowers and flaky smoked salmon, as well as mini bouquets, white chocolate-coated fruits from France and fresh kiwi berries. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Lummi Island Smoked Sockeye Salmon

Starting with the highest quality sockeye, Lummi Island’s smoked salmon recipe includes just a bit of salt and a light alder smoke to lock in the moisture. With a denser flesh and a higher oil content than other varieties of salmon, sockeye is ideal for smoking. That high oil content allows the fish to deeply absorb the smoke while keeping the flesh firm. Tender and flaky, the end product results in a bold, full-bodied taste.

Fresh Kiwi Berries

A cousin of the well-known kiwi, these smooth, grape-sized Anna Hardy kiwi berries boast a delightfully sweet flavor!

Challah Bread

Baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this fresh loaf boasts a sweet, rich flavor thanks to a traditional base of silky eggs and Shepherd’s Grain flour, plus a touch of sugar.

Ravoire et Fils 2020 Domaine des Bellugues Rosé Mediterranée

Made by a small family estate named for the fireflies that live around the vineyard (bellegues means “spark”), this French Rosé bursts with fresh fruit flavors and a crisp, bright acidity.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days that signal the coming of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful bevy of fall greens: Rainbow and Bietola Swiss chard, red veined Sorrel microgreens and mixed mini lettuces.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Basque peppers, red Bell peppers, fennel, onions, purple carrots, Patty Pan squash, French Breakfast radishes, honey select corn, red beets, cherry tomatoes and cucumber.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley and garlic from the walled garden at Bella Luna Farms.

Edible Flowers

Bright, cheery calendula blossoms to add color and spice to your salads. (Or, see this week’s enclosures for a fun, calendula-infused olive oil recipe!)

Mini Bouquets

A sweet sampling of seasonal blooms.

Maison Roucadil White-Chocolate Covered Fruit

This sweet French treat features organic strawberries and cherries that have been coated with premium organic white chocolate; yum!
