What’s In The Box? October 14-20

Season to Season
Swinging from cloudy and drippy to sunny and (super) crisp, the weather has us—and the gardens—toeing the line between summer and fall. Luckily, that also means that we are enjoying produce from both seasons as summery favorites like peppers, cucumbers and corn continue to delight alongside new offerings like the buttery Chanterelle mushrooms that pair beautifully with this week’s cozy pappardelle pasta. Also included: Italian Rustica bread, farm-fresh eggs and a beautiful French Rosé so you can toast to whatever season is at hand today.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Chanterelle Mushrooms

With a firm texture and light, delicate flavor, locally foraged golden Chanterelle mushrooms lend earthy appeal to a variety of fall dishes like pasta, soup or scrambled eggs.

Semolina Pappardelle Pasta

Perhaps enjoyed with sautéed Chanterelles this week, these fresh, broad semolina noodles should rightly earn their name, which is derived from the Italian verb ‘to gobble up’.

Italian Rustica Bread

This freshly-baked loaf is made at a small bakery in Snohomish using a wild yeast starter, which creates an airy, chewy bread and a delightfully-crisp crust. This bread is wonderfully sliced and toasted for crostini—rub each lightly-charred piece with a cut clove of garlic for extra flavor and then enjoy with the last-of-the-season heirloom tomatoes!

Ravoire et Fils 2020 Domaine des Bellugues Rosé Mediterranée

Made by a small family estate named for the fireflies that live around the vineyard (bellegues means “spark”), this French Rosé bursts with fresh fruit flavors and a crisp, bright acidity.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days that signal the coming of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Lily Pops Truffle & Salt Baked Snacks

Made by popping wild water lily seeds, this light and crunchy snack is sure to satisfy your cravings, made with a perfect blend of Italian black truffle and sea salt seasoning.

Farm & Larder Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock is simmered slowly for hours with carrots, onions and celery and seasoned with a dash of sea salt.

Fresh Organic Greens

Spring mix from Mama Bird Farm, purple radish microgreens and bright pea shoots.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, Walla Walla sweet onions, Persian cucumber, Italian sweet peppers, heirloom tomatoes and Honey Select sweet corn, plus Asian Pears.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Parsley, cilantro, thyme, Oaxacan oregano and mint from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms, plus papalo, an aromatic herb native to Mexico with a flavor reminiscent of cilantro and arugula.
