What’s In The Box? October 15-21

Oktoberfest
In keeping with the warm, soulful flavors of classic Oktoberfest, this week’s lineup takes a trip to Europe with such Bavarian favorites as smoky bratwurst links, wholegrain mustard and our housemade tangy sauerkraut. Complemented by an array of fall all-stars like orange winter squash, Tropea onions, Badger Flame golden beets and orchard apples to incorporate into comforting side dishes, this box also includes bacon and roasted pork belly, crisp apple cider, melty fontina-style cheese and fresh pumpernickel bread—prost!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst.

Roasted Pork Belly & Neuske’s Bacon

Add even more flavor to this week’s menu with roasted pork belly (add it to a platter of bratwurst!) and smoky bacon from Neuske’s—the perfect finishing touch to a classic German potato salad; see recipes for details!

Wholegrain Mustard

Wonderful slathered over a hearty bratwurst, our signature mustard is bold and slightly spicy, made with both ground and pickled mustard seeds, fresh parsley and apple cider vinegar.

Housemade Sauerkraut

Made from finely-shredded cabbage fermented with sea salt, this traditional German condiment packs a wonderful, tangy kick.

Pumpernickel Bread

Baked fresh just for us by a small bakery in nearby Snohomish, this slightly-sweet rye bread loaf is wonderful served alongside this week’s German-inspired fare.

Michel Gassier Nostre Païs Costières de Nîmes 2014

Crafted from a combination of Grenache, Carginan, Syrha, Mourvèdre and Cinsault grapes, this lush red wine brims with layers of fruit flavor. A deep red-violet in the glass, the nose shows intriguing aromas of black fruit, cherry, and hot stones followed up by rich flavors on the palate.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream. The “girls” are enjoying the crisp mornings and pleasant afternoons of the fall season, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Fontina-Style Cheese

Fresh from our farmstead creamery, this nutty, buttery Fontina-style cheese is crafted from sweet cow’s milk.

Sauk Farm Honeycrisp Apple Cider

Crafted from cold-pressed Honeycrisp apples grown on Sauk Farm in Concrete, Washington, this refreshing cider is delicious served crisp and cold all on its own, or is mixed into your next cocktail.

Orchard Fruit

Honeycrisp apples, Gratitude grapes and Comice pears.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Sweet pea shoots, escarole rainbow Swiss chard and red streak Mizuna greens.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes sweet Italian peppers, Tropea onions, yellow onions, Bolero carrots, Badger Flame golden beets, orange winter squash, Pinto potatoes, celery and the last of the season’s heirloom tomatoes and sweet corn.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Garlic, thyme, sage, chives and parsley from the walled garden and hoophouse at Bella Luna Farms.

Decorative Gourds

Colorful, locally-grown gourds for your seasonal decor!
