What’s In The Box? October 17-23

Oktoberfest
In keeping with the warm, soulful flavors of classic Oktoberfest, this week’s lineup stars such Bavarian favorites as smoky bratwurst links, wholegrain mustard and our housemade tangy sauerkraut. Complemented by an array of fresh fall produce like celery root, Lacinato kale, Brussels sprouts and sweet Bullhorn peppers to incorporate into comforting side dishes, this box also includes fresh-picked Honeycrisp apples and our walnut-cinnamon apple crisp topping to finish your supper on a sweet note.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst. Make these flavorful sausages the star of your Bavarian feast by serving them hot with our housemade mustard and tangy sauerkraut.

Wholegrain Mustard

Wonderful slathered over a hearty bratwurst, our signature mustard is bold and slightly spicy, made with both ground and pickled mustard seeds, fresh parsley and apple cider vinegar.

Housemade Sauerkraut

Made from finely-shredded cabbage fermented with sea salt, this traditional German condiment packs a wonderful, tangy kick.

Gruyère Cheese Bread

Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère cheese with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely delicious toasted or re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.

Ayinger Braüweisse

This medium-bodied German Hefeweizen is very soft and mild, with a lively, Champagne-like sparkle.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Walnut-Cinnamon Apple Crisp Topping

Wonderful paired with this week’s selection of farm-fresh apples, our signature fruit crisp topping is crafted from organic brown sugar, sweet butter, fragrant cinnamon, dried cranberries and toasted walnuts.

Seasonal Fruit

Honeycrisp apples fresh from the orchard.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Lacinato kale, treviso radicchio and pea shoots.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes parsnips, leeks, celery root, orange carrots, yellow fingerling potatoes, Delicata squash, Brussels sprouts and Bullhorn sweet peppers.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Sage, parsley and thyme from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna.
