What’s In The Box? October 28 – November 3

Oktoberfest
In keeping with the warm, soulful flavors of classic Oktoberfest, this week’s lineup takes a trip to Bavaria with favorites such as smoky bratwurst links, wholegrain mustard and our housemade tangy sauerkraut. Complemented by an array of fall all-stars like Delicata squash, Hakurei turnips, leeks and rainbow carrots to incorporate into comforting side dishes, this box also includes red Pimento peppers, roasted pecans and our signature cornichons, plus Honeycrisp apples and our accompanying apple cake mix to bake up a fitting dessert for this cozy and comforting feast—prost!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst

The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst.

Wholegrain Mustard

Wonderful slathered over a hearty bratwurst, our signature mustard is bold and slightly spicy, made with both ground and pickled mustard seeds, fresh parsley and apple cider vinegar.

Housemade Sauerkraut

Made from finely-shredded cabbage fermented with sea salt, this traditional German condiment packs a wonderful, tangy kick.

Cornichons

Our housemade cornichons are made using a traditional French recipe, crafted with Mathilde cucumbers and tarragon, with a grape leaf added to each jar during pickling to keep these petite, crunchy snacks nice and crisp.

Fresh Cinnamon-Raisin Bread

Made with natural starter, cinnamon and moist, chewy Flame raisins, this freshly-baked loaf is from our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Clean Slate Riesling 2019

Clean, crisp and fresh, this dry Riesling is hallmarked by a lively acidity and minerality, and balanced by flavors of ripe peach and citrus fruits.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Callie’s Charleston Biscuits’ Cocktail Pecans

Perfectly-toasted and salted pecans fit for snacking, salads and beyond!

Apple Cake Mix

Crafted from our own signature recipe, this apple cake mix bakes up moist and delicious when simply mixed with eggs, diced apples and walnuts—see recipes for details!

Seasonal Fruit

Honeycrisp apples fresh from the orchard.

Fresh Organic Greens

Frisée and cabbage.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Hakurei turnips, Delicata squash, leeks, yellow onion, cauliflower, baby red potatoes and mixed rainbow carrots, plus red Pimento peppers, a red, small heart-shaped chile pepper with a sweet, mild flavor and very little heat.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Chives, cilantro, thyme and Italian parsley from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
