What’s In The Box? October 5-12

FALL COLOR
As leaves start to flutter to the ground and dusk descends earlier in the day, now is the time to cozy up with this week’s lineup of colorful fall offerings—like vibrant purple eggplant, ripe yellow peaches, sweet corn, red peppers, tomatoes, pluots and Persian cucumbers, as well as a bevy of greens including purslane, rainbow Swiss chard and pea shoots and then tender, fragrant herbs. Also complemented by farm-fresh eggs, Pomodoro bread and a maple cinnamon-spiced nut butter, this box is a lovely snapshot of the season at its best.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Seasonal Fruit

Reliance grapes, Flavor Heart pluots and ripe freestone yellow peaches from Collins Family Orchards, a fourth-generation family-run farm located in Selah, Washington.

Big Spoon Roasters Maple Cinnamon Peanut & Pecan Butter

Handcrafted in small batches with fresh-roasted, coarsely-milled peanuts and pecans, sweet Vermont maple syrup, fragrant cinnamon and hand-harvested sea salt, this addictive, aromatic spread from North Carolina’s Big Spoon Roasters encapsulates some of fall’s best flavors.

Pomodoro Loaf

Flecked with flavorful sun-dried tomatoes and herbs, plus a hint of sea salt, this savory loaf is baked just for us by our favorite bakery in Snohomish.

Two Birds One Stone Blanc

This juicy, rich and well-balanced white was crafted by the Two Birds One Stone French winemaking team, who traveled the world, gaining experience in South America, South Africa and Australia before settling back in France. The resulting wine is fruity, easy to drink and reflects both Old and New World styles of winemaking; serve chilled to fully enjoy its vivid finish.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend lots of time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Rainbow Swiss chard, Escarole, pea shoots and purslane.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes heirloom tomatoes, Purple Rain eggplant, sweet corn, red Bell pepper, Hakurei turnips, scallions, Poblano peppers and Persian cucumbers.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley and cilantro from the walled garden here at Bella Luna and red garlic from Caruso Farms. Also included: Oaxachan pepicha, an herb native to Mexico that adds immense flavor to a variety of dishes. Citrusy, with a bit of pine and mint, it packs a wallop with a zingy bite similar to arugula.
