Ode to Summer
Though the calendar may say fall, here in the Northwest we are still enjoying warm, sunny weather—plus an abundance of summer crops still to harvest, from juicy tomatoes and green beans to crisp peppers and zucchini. Thus, this week’s box is our ode to the last of summer, with flavorful French lentil salad, garlic fougasse bread and marinated feta cheese to go alongside crisp Pinot Noir wine, blueberry crisp and a beautiful medley of produce.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

French Black Lentils

These flavorful lentils are cooked in rich Bella Luna Farms’ chicken stock, then mixed with sweet onions, chopped parsley and sweet roasted red peppers. This healthy side is wonderful served with marinated feta and a platter of grilled summer vegetables.

Garlic Fougasse Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this rustic flatbread is ideal for sharing. Similar in style to traditional foccacia, the artisanal-style loaf is studded with fresh garlic to give it extra depth and flavor—tear off a piece and dip it in your favorite olive oil, or top with fresh cheese.

Evening Land 2012 Pinot Noir

This Oregon Pinot Noir is sourced predominantly from the Yamhill-Carlton AVA with certified organic fruit from the Lemelson Vineyards, as well as from the Eola-Amity Hills AVA with fruit from the old vines of Eola Springs Vineyard. Evening Land’s vineyard sources are carefully selected for their stewardship of the land and sound farming practices, and showcase the typical red volcanic soils that the Willamette Valley is so famous for. Beautiful and deep in color with a purple edge, the nose is broad and open with candied red and black fruit aromas reminiscent of fresh blackberry and huckleberry crumble.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green. With shorter days that signal the coming of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they can still enjoy the warm afternoons scratching up bugs and eating tasty greens and weeds we pull from the garden. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Feta Cheese In Olive Oil & Fresh Herbs

Creamy with just the right amount of bite, this fresh feta is accented by high-quality olive oil, fresh oregano, parsley, rosemary and red wine vinegar. Enjoy crumbled over our French lentils.

Blueberry Hazelnut Fruit Crisp

An all-organic blend of hazelnut flour, all-purpose flour, cane sugar, sea salt, butter and a touch of cinnamon atop a juicy blueberry filling.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes French Filet green beans, Italian heirloom zucchini, green Bell peppers, Sungold cherry tomatoes, Finale red plums, Cipollini onions and Austrian Crescent fingerling potatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A spicy salad mix from Local Roots Farm, plus frisée, Variegata Castellfranco di Luisa radicchio and Spigariello greens.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh garlic, shallots, basil, oregano, Italian parsley and rosemary from Bella Luna Farms.
