What’s In The Box? September 17-23

Late Summer Campout
There is something soul-soothing about a campout: The woodsy, smoky smell of the campfire and hearty meals cooked over the open flame. This week’s box evokes that same cozy, inviting feeling with a classic camping breakfast starring hot, fluffy biscuits topped with sausage gravy, farm fresh eggs, homemade jam and an array of beautiful late summer produce including sweet red peppers, French fingerling potatoes and the first of the apples from the orchard. Finish this leisurely weekend feast on a sweet note with warm baked apples or a locally-crafted s’mores chocolate bar.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Skagit River Ranch Breakfast Sausage Links

With a flavor that hints of maple and spices, this incredible breakfast sausage is made from all-natural pork raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley. These pampered pigs roam outdoors in certified-organic pastureland to root and dig, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat.

Cream Biscuit Mix

Just add cream! Made from organic flour, sugar and butter, plus aluminum-free baking powder and a dash of sea salt, our savory housemade biscuit mix bakes up light and fluffy. Top hot-from-the-oven biscuits with a slathering of homemade jam or this week’s signature sausage gravy—see recipes for details.

Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Made with moist, chewy Flame raisins, this freshly-baked loaf from our favorite local bakery in Snohomish makes excellent toast.

Luke Lambert Crudo Shiraz

Hailing from the fertile Yarro Valley of Victoria in Australia, this light, medium-bodied Shiraz is wild yeast-fermented and bottled without fining or filtration, giving it an incredibly fresh and vibrant taste on the palette.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, blue and green—enjoy a full dozen to enjoy with this week’s brunch fare. With shorter days that signal the coming of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors where they still enjoy the warm afternoons. Bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Blueberry Jam

Made here at Bella Luna in our farmhouse kitchen from fresh-picked blueberries, organic cane sugar and pectin.

Baked Apple Filling

A true farm favorite! This fragrant combination of spicy cinnamon, chopped walnuts, organic brown sugar and butter, plus dried cranberries, raisins and apricots, pairs excellently with fall apples. (See recipes for full instructions.)

Fresh Late Summer Fruit

Just-picked Macintosh apples from the orchard, plus a green-fleshed cantaloupe or yellow canary melon from Tonnemaker Family Orchards.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes sweet red Jimmy Nardello frying peppers, French fingerling potatoes, sweet Skagit onions, mixed heirloom tomatoes including red and yellow Brandywines, Romanesco cauliflower, red radishes, mini white cucumbers, heirloom Italian zucchini, red and golden cherry tomatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful selection of peppery arugula, Castelfranco radicchio and spicy salad mix.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Organically-grown curly French parsley, garlic, shallots and rosemary.

Seattle Chocolates Campers’ S’Mores Chocolate Bar

Packed with kosher marshmallow nougat, crushed graham crackers and solid milk chocolate, this rich treat from local company Seattle Chocolates is the perfect finishing note to this week’s campout-themed box.
