What’s In The Box? September 2-8

Late Summer Bounty
From Poblano peppers and eggplant to heirloom tomatoes and sweet corn, summer’s late-season bounty continues this week with a fresh and flavorful lineup that also stars gorgeous cranberry shelling beans, Italian prune plums and a wealth of fragrant herbs. Add alongside a freshly-baked load of Pain au Levain bread, farm-fresh eggs and organic greens, and you’ve got all the makings of an al fresco-ready feast for the long holiday weekend ahead. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Smoking Goose Bacon Bits

The savory pork belly bacon bits from the renowned Smoking Goose meatery are kissed with Indiana maple syrup and brown sugar to create the perfect blend of smoky and sweet!

Cranberry Shelling Beans

These gorgeous shelling beans boast a distinctly bright speckled exterior with ivory colored beans that are also dappled in the characteristic cranberry markings. When cooked, the beans develop a sweet, rich and meaty flavor reminiscent of chestnuts with a plush creamy texture.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies country-style French baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Jean-Luc Colombo Cape Bleue Rosé 2020

Lovely for a summery September afternoon, this invigorating rosé is a dusty-pink blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre grapes. The raspberry and watermelon flavors are zesty and cutting, edged by crushed mineral and salt as well as a lingering, thirst-quenching acidity.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms, our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of cream, beige and brown.

Italian Prune Plums

About half the size of a typical plum and curiously egg shaped, these blueish-purple plums are a true September favorite here at the farm.

Honey Select Sweet Corn

‘Tis the season for corn! These super-sweet, locally-grown ears are great for grilling—enjoy hot off the cob with a dab of butter, or try tossing the charred kernels into a summery salad.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Sunflower shoots and escarole.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Tropea onions, Walla Walla sweet onions, Annina eggplant, Poblano peppers, heirloom tomatoes and cucumber.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Basil, parsley, rosemary and summer savory from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms.
