What’s In The Box? September 29-October 5

HARVEST TIME
The amazingly sunny weather of late sure has kept the gardens happy! Thus, a colorful plethora of produce continues to delight in this week’s lineup, which includes everything from fall favorites like Italian eggplant, Bietole Swiss chard, and sweet D’Anjou pears to summery peppers, cucumbers and even more tomatoes. To accent this beautiful bounty, you’ll also find freshly-baked Pain au Levain bread, crisp salad greens, farm-fresh eggs, a sweet mini bouquet and imported artichoke leaf pasta in your box. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Casina Rossa Folgie di Carciofo Pasta

Imported by Ritrovo Selections, this beautiful durum wheat pasta is lightly flavored with artichoke purée, turmeric and poppy seed. Affectionately known as artichoke leaf pasta, it goes well with seafood, poultry, and white bianco-style sauces as well this week’s array of fall produce options.

Tomatoes!

They’re still coming in from the gardens: Enjoy cherry tomatoes and beautiful heirloom tomatoes this week.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough bread epitomizes French country-style baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked by our favorite bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Lezíria Vinho Tinto

Crafted from Grenache grapes grown in central Portugal, this brilliantly red, highly aromatic wine is mature and fruity with multifaceted notes of red fruits like strawberry and raspberry. It’s round and well-balanced, with a smooth start and well-balanced tannins.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend lots of time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Fall Orchard Fruit

The first of the D’Anjou pears.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Mini lettuces, escarole and Bietole Swiss chard.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes cucumbers, celery, orange carrots, Italian eggplant, Tropea red onions, sweet Italian peppers, fennel and Romano beans.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Thai basil, garlic, thyme and parsley from the walled garden here at Bella Luna.

Mini Bouquets

A sweet sampling of seasonal blooms.

Dick Taylor Vanilla Raspberry Chocolate Bar

Made ‘bean-to-bar’ in Dick Taylor’s small Northern California factory, this dark chocolate bar is kissed with a mix of organic, freeze-dried raspberries and organic vanilla-coconut palm sugar.
