How it Works
First of all, how does it work? A handcrafted wooden box will be hand-delivered to your doorstep, where it will remain throughout the duration of your subscription. This is where your weekly Farm & Larder goods will be placed each week.
September Splendor
Early September brings the farm to one of its most abundant moments, with sun-ripened tomatoes and a colorful parade of peppers leading the way. This week’s box captures that late-summer splendor with richly flavored Fiaschetto and dry-farmed tomatoes, Shishitos, sweet Jimmy Nardellos and fruity Sugar Rush Peach peppers, alongside fennel, cucumbers, leeks, beets, Chanterelles, and tender greens. Add juicy Angelus peaches and Italian plums, fresh-baked garlic-herb bread, farm eggs, and a bottle of hot sauce for a collection that feels like summer turned all the way up—just before the season begins to shift.
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Fiaschetto Tomatoes
Fiaschetto tomatoes are a small Italian heirloom variety with rich flavor, a meaty texture, and natural sweetness. Excellent fresh or cooked into sauces, they are also well suited for drying.
Big Ass Tomatoes
These Big Ass Tomatoes are a mix of two heirloom varieties, Pruden’s Purple and Azoychka, grown using dry-farming methods with no supplemental irrigation once the plants are established. As the roots reach deeper for moisture, the fruit develops a concentrated flavor, natural sweetness, and a bright, balanced acidity.
Summer Stone Fruit
A taste of late summer at its sweetest. Angelus peaches from Tonnemaker Farms are juicy, fragrant, and beautifully sweet, while Italian plums bring deep purple skins, golden flesh, and a lovely sweet-tart flavor. Enjoy them out of hand, slice into salads or over morning yogurt, or bake them into a simple crisp or galette while the season lasts.
Garlic-Herb Bread
Fresh from a local bakery, this fragrant loaf is baked with savory garlic and herbs for plenty of flavor in every bite. Warm it in the oven until the crust is crisp, then tear and share alongside dinner, use it to soak up the last of a good sauce, or toast thick slices and top with this week’s late-summer tomatoes for an easy bruschetta.
Momento Cellars 2021 Relic Red
A Bordeaux-style blend from Washington’s Momento Cellars, Relic Red is a natural match for the first hints of fall. Rich and food-friendly, it’s just the bottle for early-September suppers—pair it with grilled meats, roasted eggplant and peppers, earthy mushrooms, or a tomato-rich pasta as late summer begins to give way to autumn.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage-breed Black Copper Maran, Ameraucana, and Delaware hens provides us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. These late-summer days still offer plenty of time outdoors, where the hens happily peck, scratch, and forage in the fresh air.
Pepper Bombs Hot Sauce
A little bottle with a big kick! This hot sauce brings a welcome burst of heat to the table—perfect for splashing over eggs, grilled meats and vegetables, stirring into marinades and dressings, or adding a fiery finish to just about anything that could use a little extra zip. Start with a dash and take it from there!
Seasonal Organic Greens
Fresh baby lettuces and di Lusia radicchio.
Fresh Organic Vegetables
This week’s beautiful bounty of produce also includes: Silver slicer cucumbers, leeks, fennel, baby red beets, Chanterelle mushrooms, and sweet onions, plus Shishito, Jimmy Nardello and Sugar Rush Peach peppers.
Garden-Grown Herbs
