How it Works
First of all, how does it work? A handcrafted wooden box will be hand-delivered to your doorstep, where it will remain throughout the duration of your subscription. This is where your weekly Farm & Larder goods will be placed each week.
Wild & Wonderful
This week’s box celebrates some of the season’s most treasured ingredients, bringing together wild-foraged porcini and morel mushrooms, smoky English-style bacon rashers, buttery galette dough, and a taste of summer sweetness from Bow Hill’s heirloom blueberries. Whether you choose to tuck mushrooms and bacon into a rustic savory galette or transform those beautiful blueberries into a simple free-form tart, this week’s lineup invites a little creativity in the kitchen. Rounded out with Gruyère cheese bread, fresh farm eggs, and vibrant seasonal greens, it’s a delicious celebration of the wild and wonderful flavors of the Pacific Northwest.
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Jack Mountain Smoked English-Style Bacon Rashers
Also known as back bacon, the rashers from this Skagit Valley-based meat company are hand cut from the loin with a portion of the belly still attached. Each belly cut is dry-cured the “old school” way, by hand, aged for a minimum of eight days, and are smoked all day over hazelnut shells. The resulting rashers crisp up very well, yet still have a big meaty chew.
Gruyère Cheese Bread
Made in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this freshly-baked loaf balances sweet, nutty Gruyère with a light, crisp crust. Absolutely wonderful re-warmed in the oven—just sprinkle with a few drops of water and bake at 350° for about 15 minutes.
Galette Dough
Crafted from Cairnspring Edison AP flour and organic butter, this housemade pastry dough adapted from a beloved Alice Waters recipe bakes up light and crisp, with a smooth buttery taste that pairs well with the classic pairing of earthy mushrooms and savory bacon—or sweet-tart berries; see this week’s recipes for details.
Portlandia Brut Sparkling Wine
Produced from 100% Columbia Valley Chardonnay using the traditional Méthode Champenoise, this bright, dry sparkling wine offers lively bubbles and refreshing notes of Granny Smith apple, Meyer lemon, and toasted brioche. Elegant yet approachable, it’s a versatile companion for everything from savory mushroom dishes to buttery pastries.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage-breed Black Copper Maran, Ameraucana, and Delaware hens provide us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the long days of spring, they are enjoying lots of time outside in their run, pecking, scratching, and soaking up the sunshine.
Bow Hill Blueberries
Handpicked at peak ripeness by the dedicated harvest crew at Bow Hill Blueberries, these organic heirloom blueberries are frozen immediately on the farm to preserve their exceptional flavor and nutrition. Sweet, intensely blueberry-forward, and bursting with summer flavor, they are perfect for smoothies, baking, sauces, and enjoying straight from the freezer by the handful.
Locally Foraged Porcini & Morel Mushrooms
This week’s box features both locally-foraged porcini and morels, two prized wild mushrooms celebrated for their rich flavor, earthy aroma, and remarkable versatility. Available only in the wild, these seasonal treasures inspire a devoted following of mushroom hunters who scour Pacific Northwest forests in search of them each spring.
Seasonal Organic Greens
Organic mixed greens and baby lettuces.
Fresh Organic Fruit & Vegetables
This week’s produce selection also includes Chioggia beets, red radishes and turnips.
Garden-Grown Herbs
Thyme, sweet bay, mint, tarragon and rosemary from the walled garden and middle field here at Bella Luna.
