How it Works
First of all, how does it work? A handcrafted wooden box will be hand-delivered to your doorstep, where it will remain throughout the duration of your subscription. This is where your weekly Farm & Larder goods will be placed each week.
An Oktoberfest Feast
Raise a glass to October with a box inspired by the hearty flavors of Oktoberfest. Skagit River Ranch bratwurst takes center stage, ready to pair with Riesling sauerkraut, tender potatoes, sweet onions, green cabbage, a dollop of French wholegrain mustard, and a cold beer for a festive autumn supper. Warm rosemary sea salt bread brings a savory, comforting addition to the table, while garden-grown salad greens, Northwest hazelnuts, quince, carrots, fragrant herbs, and farm-fresh eggs round out the week’s collection. And for a sweet finish, crisp apples picked straight from the Bella Luna orchard offer a delicious taste of fall at the Farm.
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Skagit River Ranch Bratwurst
The pampered pigs raised on this farm in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified organic pastureland to root, dig, and cavort, thriving on a diet of flaxseed, corn and wheat. This week, enjoy the all-natural pork in the ranch’s perfectly-spiced bratwurst.
Britt’s Riesling Sauerkraut
Crafted from green cabbage, sweet onion, sea salt and yes, Riesling wine, this zippy sauerkraut from Langley, Washington’s Britt’s Fermented Foods is wonderful served with this week’s Bavarian fare. (Fun fact: The first sauerkraut was actually from China and used rice wine! Sauerkraut was introduced to Europe by the Huns when they came on horseback and became a staple in German cuisine when they combined salt and water with their cabbage.)
New Day Baking Rosemary Sea Salt Bread
Kissed with fragrant rosemary and flecks of sea salt, this freshly baked loaf from New Day is a delicious addition to the autumn table. Toast thick slices until golden and crisp, then serve warm alongside sizzling bratwurst, tangy sauerkraut, and a dollop of grainy mustard for a hearty Oktoberfest-inspired supper. Or simply slather with butter and enjoy with a comforting bowl of fall soup.
Bitburger Premium Pils German Pilsener
Prost! Brewed in Germany, this classic pilsner is crisp, refreshing, and beautifully balanced, with a bright golden color, delicate malt character, and a pleasantly hoppy finish. A natural companion to Oktoberfest fare, it’s especially delicious alongside sizzling bratwurst, tangy sauerkraut, warm potatoes, and a generous dollop of grainy mustard.
Farm Fresh Eggs
Our small flock of heritage-breed Black Copper Maran, Ameraucana, and Delaware hens provides us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. As October brings cooler days and the first signs of autumn to the farm, the hens still spend plenty of time outdoors, happily pecking, scratching, and foraging in the fresh fall air.
Moutarde de Meaux Pommery Mustard
Crafted from mustard seeds, water, vinegar, salt and spices, this immensely-flavorful wholegrain mustard from France has been made with the same time-honored recipe since 1632.
Nookachamps Farms Organic Hazelnuts
Try adding a sprinkling of these delicious Northwest nuts to a salad of fresh fall greens, a platter of roasted beets, or even cookie batter!
Seasonal Organic Greens
Green cabbage, di Lusia radicchio, baby lettuces, and salad Burnett grown right here in our middle field.
Fresh-Picked Fall Apples
Fresh from the Bella Luna orchard, these crisp fall apples are a sweet taste of the season. Enjoy them straight from the fruit bowl, slice into autumn salads, pair with your favorite cheese, or bake into a cozy crisp, tart, or cake.
Fresh Organic Fruits & Vegetables
This week’s selection of produce also includes Austrian Crescent fingerling potatoes, sweet yellow onions, and Shin Kuroda carrots, plus quince.
Garden-Grown Herbs
Garlic, thyme, Italian parsley, and rosemary from the walled garden and middle field here at Bella Luna.
