How it Works
First of all, how does it work? A handcrafted wooden box will be hand-delivered to your doorstep, where it will remain throughout the duration of your subscription. This is where your weekly Farm & Larder goods will be placed each week.
“Winter is the time for comfort, for good food and warmth, for the touch of a friendly hand and for a talk beside the fire: it is the time for home.” -Edith Sitwell
Cozy Risotto Night
This week’s box invites you to slow down and stir something wonderful. Arborio rice and our rich farm-made chicken stock set the stage for a creamy risotto night, ready to welcome sweet sautéed leeks, golden Kabocha squash, or fragrant garden garlic. Alongside, you’ll find beautiful winter salad fixings—vibrant radicchio and crisp Belgian endive—perfect for tossing with bright Cara Cara oranges or thin slices of tart Granny Smith apple. Chioggia beets bring a splash of color to the table, while a rustic Pain au Levain loaf is ready for tearing and sharing. There’s also fresh Bellsong buttermilk to whisk into dressings. Altogether, it’s a cozy, seasonal spread that balances warm comfort with the bright flavors of late winter.
Here are a few recipe ideas for the week:
Kabocha, Leek & Garlic Risotto
Creamy Arborio rice slowly stirred with farm-made chicken stock becomes the perfect canvas for sweet roasted Kabocha squash and mellow sautéed leeks.
Soft Poached Farm Eggs
For an extra-luxurious finish, top each bowl of risotto with a softly poached farm egg. When the yolk breaks, it melts into the creamy rice and creates an even richer sauce—simple, comforting, and absolutely delicious.
Winter Salad of Radicchio, Endive, Cara Cara & Apple
Bright citrus, crisp apples, and gently bitter winter greens make this refreshing salad the perfect companion to rich risotto.
Roasted Chioggia Beets with Citrus & Herbs
These candy-striped Chioggia beets roast into sweet, tender rounds that pair beautifully with bright citrus and fresh herbs.
Roasted Endive with Walnut Vinaigrette
This warm side would pair nicely with this week’s Italian fare!
Pink Peppercorn Dressing
This bright, zippy dressing from our friend chef Nicco Muratore is lovely tossed with winter chicories.
Baked Apples
A true classic, this beautiful dessert is lovely topped with crème fraîche.
Mushroom Risotto
Creamy and delicious, this recipe is a favorite here at the farm—just remember to stir!
