What’s In The Box? October 13-19

Mediterranean Favorites
This week, we nod to the fresh, vibrant flavors of Greece with a produce-packed menu that includes pepperoncini, mixed heirloom tomatoes and fennel, as well as fresh feta cheese. Pick and choose from the included produce, plus Kalamata olives and sun-dried tomatoes, to create your own customized baked orzo, then invite friends and family over to imbibe in our most favorite of Mediterranean traditions—gathering around the table to enjoy great food and wine.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Orzo Pasta

With its petite, rice-like shape, this pasta pairs beautifully with our housemade chicken stock and your choice of produce for a hearty main course.

Housemade Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, our signature stock is simmered slowly for hours with carrots, onions and celery and seasoned with a dash of sea salt. This immensely flavorful broth adds a beautiful richness to the baked orzo dish found in this week’s recipes.

Kalamata Olives & Sun-Dried Tomatoes

Plump Greek olives and flavorful sun-dried tomatoes to include in this week’s baked orzo.

Nathan Gray Syrah 2014

Crafted by Kerloo Cellars winemaker Ryan Crane from 100-percent Syrah grapes grown on the famed Den Hoed Vineyard, this fantastic wine boasts a deep-purple color, plus notes of ripe red fruit. The smooth, finessed finish helps it pair nicely with this week’s baked orzo.

Feta Cheese

Creamy with just the right amount of bite, this decadent imported feta is crafted from sheep’s milk. Crumble the soft cheese over salads or toss into baked orzo (see recipes for details!).

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors; bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Seattle Chocolates Sunny Salted
Almond Chocolate Bar

Packed with chunks of dry roasted almonds and a pinch of sea salt, this dark chocolate bar from local company Seattle Chocolates is the perfect finishing note to this week’s Greek feast.

Fresh Orchard Fruit

Crisp fall apples from the trees at Bella Luna.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, yellow onions, Pink Beauty radishes, pepperoncini, heirloom mixed tomatoes and fennel.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Baby red romaine, puntarelle and Lacinato kale.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Parsley, rosemary, shallots and garlic.
