What’s In The Box? October 6-12

Autumn Brunch
The flavors of fall continue to delight, this week in a produce-packed brunch featuring our whole grain hotcakes topped with sautéed apples and barrel-aged maple syrup, organic breakfast sausages and farm-fresh eggs to scramble, poach or fry as you please. Accented by cinnamon raisin bread, rich and silky crème fraîche and colorful produce including golden beets, purple carrots and sprouting broccoli, this breakfast is fit for a leisurely gathering—enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Farm & Larder Whole Grain Hotcake Mix

Crafted with whole grains and toasted pecans, this housemade mix produces hearty flapjacks rich in taste and flavor. Simply mix with milk and eggs in a large bowl, heat up the griddle and get to flipping! Try topping warm hotcakes with cinnamon-kissed sautéed apples and barrel-aged maple syrup.

Barrel-Aged Maple Syrup

This rich syrup crafted by local distillery Woodinville Whiskey Co. is made from pure, grade-A amber maple and aged in the company’s oak barrels to infuse it with hints of vanilla, caramel, wood spice, and of course, whiskey.

Double D Meats Breakfast Sausage

Family owned and run since 1955, Mountlake Terrace’s Double DD Meats only carries naturally raised meats—including this week’s flavorful breakfast sausage made from grain-fed pork. (Chicken breakfast sausage will be substituted for subscribers who do not eat pork.)

Fresh Cinnamon Raisin Bread

Made with natural starter cinnamon and moist, chewy Flame raisins, this freshly-baked loaf from our favorite local bakery in Snohomish makes for excellent toast—set out a freshly-toasted stack for brunch.

Vivanco Rioja Blanco 2015

Located in Briones, La Rioja in northern Spain, the Vivanco winery, museum, and foundation is a triumvirate of wine resources built by the Vivanco family to “give back to wine what wine has given us.” This particular Vivanco white wine abounds with intense aromas of citrus, green apple and white peach, plus a good, balanced acidity.

Housemade Crème Fraîche

Crafted in our farmstead creamery from pasteurized organic sweet cream, this rich and silky crème fraîche is delicious dolloped on this week’s hotcakes.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With shorter days of fall, the girls are up with the sun to roam the outdoors; bedtime is coming much earlier now, as we see them heading into their house to roost as the sun is going down.

Fresh Orchard Fruit

Crisp fall apples from the trees at Bella Luna, plus honeydew melon from Tonnemaker’s Family Orchard.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes Piracicaba sprouting broccoli, Cipollini onions, rainbow cherry tomatoes, Jimmy Nardello peppers, purple carrots, fennel, Ozette potatoes and golden beets.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Little Gem Romaine lettuce and Variegato di Lusso radicchio.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Parsley, shallots and garlic.
