What’s In The Box? April 3 – 9

This week’s box is anchored by the ultimate comfort food: creamy macaroni and cheese. Freshened with a unexpected blend of rich béchamel and Tomme cheeses, this show-stopping entrée is accented by a crisp carrot, cabbage and apple slaw, seed bread and a plethora of vegetables including our housemade marinated Crimini mushrooms. Enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Homemade Macaroni & Cheese

Our twist on the classic comfort dish is crafted with a creamy blend of rich béchamel and Bella Luna Tomme cheese for a decadent touch—enjoy with our tangy slaw and this week’s seed loaf.

Carrot-Cabbage Apple Slaw

A wonderful accompaniment to this week’s main dish, this fresh-tasting, crunchy slaw is made with crisp carrots, chopped cabbage and tart apples and topped with an apple cider vinegar vinaigrette.

Seed Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this fresh seed loaf is wrapped in a reusable hemp-cotton bento bag from San Francisco’s Ambatalia workshop. A great kitchen staple, these handmade bags can be used to store grains, pasta, nuts or produce, or even be used as a lunch bag!

Clayhouse Vineyards 2011 Sauvignon Blanc

Made with grapes from Clayhouse’s Red Cedar estate vineyard outside Paso Robles, this refreshing, aperitif-style wine exhibits a bouquet of starfruit, green pear, honeydew melon and grapefruit notes. The floral tones are further enhanced by a touch of minerality, and the wine finishes with an exquisite, creamy mouthfeel.

Jersey Tomme Cheese

This Alpine-style cheese is made in our in-house creamery with Jersey cow’s milk and aged for more than six months. Jersey cow’s milk is ideal for cheesemaking because of its higher fat content—the cheese is a rich golden yellow color, unlike goat’s milk cheese, which is naturally pure white.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. With the arrival of longer days, the girls have more time to enjoy all of the tasty dandelions and popweed we pull from the garden as they spend their days digging and scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run to find delectable bugs and worms!

Marge Original Granola

This small-batch granola from local baking company Marge Bakery is packed with a robust blend of nuts, seeds, dried cranberries and toasted coconut. Great as a morning cereal, atop yogurt, or simply by the handful, the crunchy mix is crafted with organic rolled oats, Vermont maple syrup and Marge’s signature blend of warm spices.

Housemade Marinated Crimini Mushrooms

Marinated in balsamic vinegar, herbs, garlic and extra virgin olive oil, our homemade Crimini mushrooms are perfect in a salad, or served as an appetizer with Tomme cheese.

Seasonal Organic Fruits & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection includes scallions, Broccoli di Cicco, red onions, bunch carrots, rainbow cauliflower, leeks, Kabocha squash and Butterfinger yellow fingerling potatoes.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Fresh-picked red butter lettuce and peppery arugula.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh parsley, garlic, thyme, shallots and sage from the Walled Garden at Bella Luna Farms.
