What’s In The Box? July 16-22

Sun-Ripened
No matter how you pronounce it, the word ‘tomato’ practically sings of summer, as well it should, as the vine-ripened beauties are now hitting their strides here in mid-summer. This week’s box pays homage to the ripe, juicy heirloom tomato with a bevy of complementary ingredients like fresh, locally-made bucatini pasta, Italian Rustica bread and bright herbs and edible flowers, plus summery produce like color-rich beets, fennel, salad greens, apricots and Goumi berries. So, uncork a bottle of wine and enjoy these bright and beautiful summer favorites.

Here’s what you’ll find in your box:

Pink Brandywine Heirloom Tomatoes

Juicy, sweet and incredibly luscious, the Northwest heirloom tomatoes are now here! See our recipe suggestions for a bevy of ways to enjoy them this week—tossed with fresh bucatini pasta; combined with grilled bread croutons in a stunning panzanella-style salad; or, even used to make a robust salad vinaigrette.

Fresh Bucatini Pasta

Hand-crafted in nearby Bellingham, this spaghetti-like semolina pasta has a hole running through the center—hence the name bucatini, which comes from the Italian buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced”.

Italian Rustica Bread

Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this airy, rustic loaf makes for great oven-crisp crostini—just brush with olive oil, sprinkle with salt and pepper and rub with a fresh-cut clove of garlic before toasting in the oven.

Quinta das Arcas Arca Nova Vinho Verde

This dry, Porteguese Vinho Verde has attractive spice and crisp apple flavors, plus a mineral texture that finishes with a zing of tight acidity.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Busy scratching through the straw mulch in their spacious outdoor run looking for tasty bugs and worms, our heritage breed laying hens supply us with fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Seasonal Organic Greens

A beautiful mix of summer lettuces.

Fresh Summer Fruit

Apricots and Goumi berries, bright red little beauties that are often compared to sour cherries or even rhubarb in taste!

Seasonal Organic Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes cauliflower, both broccoli and Piracicaba broccolini, carrots, fennel, baby zucchini with blossoms, purple Globe turnips and golden beets.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Italian parsley and tarragon from the walled garden and greenhouse at Bella Luna Farms, plus edible flowers to add spice and color to your plate!
