What’s In the Box? July 7-13

A Taste of Tex-Mex
This week’s sunny forecast is well complemented by an equally bright lineup of Tex-Mex and summer favorites: Enjoy spicy chorizo sausage, Peruvian Mayocoba beans, spicy jalapeño peppers from Skagit County and locally-crafted, hand-pressed tortillas for taco night, as well as crunchy snap peas, cilantro, green cabbage, mixed summer squash, baby fennel, and more finds from the garden to incorporate into summery sides. Also found in your box: Farm-fresh eggs, garlic scapes and a sweet market bouquet of blooms. Here’s to good weather—and great eating!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Alvarez Farms Peruvian Mayocoba Beans

Cultivated by a 2nd generation family farm in Mabton, Washington, these dried beans also known as peruano, canary, maicoba or Mexican yellow beans are delicate and mild in flavor, and buttery in texture.

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick: Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chili powder, these flavorful sausage links from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley are crafted from their famous all-natural pork and make for a spicy addition to any Tex-Mex fare you choose, from tacos to frittatas!

Patty Pan Cooperative Wholegrain Flour Tortillas

The locally-made, hand-pressed tortillas from this Shoreline-based worker-owned coop are crafted from just four stellar ingredients: Olive oil, salt, water and organic flour from Cairnspring Mills located in the Skagit Valley.

Sliced Multigrain Bread

Crafted in nearby Snohomish by our favorite bakery, this healthy freshly-baked loaf is made with locally-milled Shepherd’s Grain flour and seven different whole grains, plus a hint of honey and toasted sunflower seeds.

Marqués de Cáceres Verdejo 2020

Made from the Verdejo grape, this lovely white from Rueda, Spain offers aromas of melon and lemon that are matched on the palate with delicate vanilla and spice from the judicious use of oak. It is great by itself but also weighty enough to pair with a variety of foods.

Farm Fresh Eggs

As they spend lots of time outdoors in their run, our small flock of heritage breed laying hens are enjoying succulent popweed pulled from the gardens along with an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, continuing to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.

Pangea Ferments Jalapeños

Locally grown and globally inspired, these certified organic peppers hail from Skagit County. Sliced and fermented in a salt water brine, these spicy, seasonal beauties are crafted without any additional preservatives.

Fresh Organic Greens

Enjoy a bounty of tender greens this week: Cegolaine bronze buttercrunch and Little Gem mini Romaine lettuces, frisée, and small green cabbage.

Seasonal Organic Fruit & Vegetables

This week’s produce selection also includes baby fennel, mixed summer squash, sugar snap peas, green onions, red beets, Hakurei turnips and red radishes.

Fresh Garden Herbs

Fresh cilantro and garlic scapes from the herb garden at Bella Luna.

Mini Market Bouquet

A sweet sampling of a few of our favorite summer blooms!
