What’s In The Box? August 22-28

Paella Party
The summer harvest is at its peak, with favorites such as heirloom tomatoes, sweet onions, purple carrots and fennel ripening in abundance as we reach the end of August. This week, put these gorgeous offerings to delicious use in a traditional Spanish-style paella crafted with our own signature chicken stock, traditional Valenciano rice and spicy chorizo sausage. Also featuring Pain au Levain bread and farm-fresh fruit including Canadice and Himrod grapes from our own Grapehouse, this summery lineup is fit for a crowd—gather ‘round the paella pan, uncork a bottle of wine and enjoy!

Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:

Paella Rice

Traditional short-grain Valenciano rice from Spain to help craft this week’s simple, summery paella—just toss in your favorite veggies!

Skagit River Ranch Chorizo Sausage

This pig has kick! Spiced with cumin, coriander and Ancho chile powder, this flavorful sausage from our friends at the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley is crafted from their famous all-natural pork and makes for a spicy addition to this week’s paella.

Farm & Larder Chicken Stock

Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, our signature stock is simmered slowly for hours with carrots, onions and celery and seasoned with a dash of sea salt. This immensely flavorful broth adds a beautiful richness to the likes of soup, pasta, and of course, paella.

Pain au Levain Bread

This slightly-nutty, slightly-sweet sourdough loaf embodies country-style French baking with a chewy crust and light, airy interior. Baked just for us at a small bakery in Snohomish, this traditional Pain au Levain is crafted using the bakery’s own sourdough starter.

Caves de Cerca Fâmega Vinho Verde

This young Portuguese wine is made from a beautiful blend of 50% Arinto, 30% Loureiro and 20% Trajadura grapes grown in the magnificent valleys of Tâmega and Douro, which are protected by the Marão and Alvão mountains. Balanced and incredibly versatile in its pairings, the finished wine boasts delicate minerality and fresh fruit aroma.

Farm Fresh Eggs

Our small flock of heritage breed laying hens gives us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown and green. The “girls” are enjoying the long summer afternoons and accompanying pleasant evenings, chasing bugs and eating tasty green weeds we pull from the garden.

Summer Fruit

Plump local blueberries, plus Canadice and Himrod grapes from the Bella Luna Grapehouse.

Seasonal Organic Greens

Cegolaine lettuce and escarole.

Seasonal Organic Vegetables & Fruit

This week’s produce selection also includes cauliflower, golden beets, heirloom tomatoes, purple carrots, fennel and sweet onions.

Fresh Garden Herbs

A beautiful assortment of herbs from the walled garden and greenhouse: Parsley, tarragon, mint, rosemary, thyme and oregano.
