What’s In The Box? February 29-March 6
Hearty, Healthy Italian
This week’s box is packed with the vibrant flavors of Italy, found in the forms of locally-made bucatini pasta, Italian sausage from Skagit River Ranch, and soft, pillowy focaccia—plus health-boosting, vitamin-rich produce like dried Porcini mushrooms and bright radicchio, plus carrots, Cipollini onions, garlic, fennel and a bevy of citrus fruit. Farm-fresh eggs, our signature chicken stock and freshly-baked lemon knot cookies help finish off this fresh and flavorful Italian lineup; mangia!
Here’s what you’ll find in your box this week:
Fresh Bellingham Pasta Co. Bucatini
Hand-crafted in nearby Bellingham, this spaghetti-like semolina pasta has a hole running through the center—hence the name bucatini, which comes from the Italian buco, meaning “hole”, while bucato means “pierced”.
Skagit River Ranch Italian Sausage
The pampered pigs raised on the Skagit River Ranch in Sedro-Woolley roam outdoors in certified-organic pasture land to root, dig, and cavort as only happy pigs can, thriving on a diet of flax seed, corn and wheat. Spiced with savory herbs, this delectable Italian-style sausage adds a savory note to the likes of pastas, pizzas and more.
Dried Porcini Mushrooms
Italian for ‘little pigs’, these meaty dried Porcini mushrooms foraged by expert mushroom hunter Jeremy Faber and his team at Foraged & Found Edibles are rich in taste, imparting a pungent, woodsy flavor to any number of dishes.
Focaccia Bread
This soft, chewy Italian-style loaf is baked just for us by our favorite local bakery. Kissed with fragrant fresh herbs, it is delicious served warm and dipped in olive oil.
Clos des Lumières L’éclat Côtes du Rhône 2020
This refreshing French wine is crafted from a blend of Viogner, Grenache Blanc, and Bourboulenc. Beautifully balanced on the palate with an ample mouthfeel, it offers hints of vanilla, citrus fruits, and almonds on the finish.
Tunawerth Creamery Greek Yogurt
Perfectly-creamy, yet delightfully-tangy, this lovely yogurt hails from a small, family-operated creamery located in Tenino, Washington.
Farm Fresh Eggs
As they spend more time snug in their coop, our heritage breed laying hens are enjoying an extra helping of grain to supplement their diet, and continue to give us fresh eggs in beautiful shades of brown, beige and cream.
Farm & Larder Chicken Stock
Made from roasted Bella Luna chickens, this flavorful stock has been simmered slowly with fresh herbs, aromatic vegetables, and seasoned with a dash of sea salt and black pepper.
Rosemary Taralli
These traditional Italian crackers are a distinctive old-world snack of the Puglia region of Italy and make for a tasty compliment to antipastos, soups, salads and bruschettas.
Italian Lemon Knot Cookies
Topped with a sweet-tart glaze, these traditional-style tarallucci al limone are soft, tender, and bright with lemony flavor.
Seasonal Organic Greens
Green Bibb lettuce, red and green Belgian endive and radicchio.
Seasonal Citrus Fruit
An amazingly vibrant selection of Meyer lemons, blood oranges, Mango Valencia oranges and Cara Cara oranges.
Seasonal Organic Produce
This week’s produce selection also includes red Cipollini onions, carrots and fennel.
Fresh Garden Herbs
Garlic and Italian parsley from the walled garden and hoophouse at Bella Luna Farms.
